Stearns-Noechel color matching model of digital rotor spinning viscose melange yarn

In this study, a reliable model for determining the relationship between yarn construction and textile color was designed. It is crucial to create coloration using a sustainable spinning method. Melange colorful yarns were produced using three-color viscose staple fibers (red, yellow, and blue) at a ratio gradient of 10% with digital rotor spinning, and then fabrics were knitted using these yarns. Based on the Stearns-Noechel model, a color prediction model suitable for the yarn-forming method was established using experimental data measured by a Datacolor650 spectrophotometer. The research results show that when the value of empirical parameter M is 0.136, the model has the best color matching effect; the average ratio error between the test and predicted values of the test sample is 7.89%; the average color difference is 0.320; the color difference of each sample is less than 1. Moreover, the linear correlation between M value and the wavelength is weaker, and there is a good linear correlation only when the wavelength is above 600 nm. A quadratic function can better explain this relationship.
