Carbon dioxide promotes the formation of cyanohydrin in aqueous media and therefore, enabled to purify cyanide contaminated water without reactive oxidants and/or additional energy input. The method was tested in various conditions mimicking goldmine wastewater to elucidate the capacity of CO2-mediated cyanide remedy process.
