Inclusion in cells: Supramolecular porphyrin/per-O-methyl-β-cyclodextrin complexation is highly specific. Per-O-methyl-β-cyclodextrin bearing cell-penetrating peptide and BODIPY is efficiently taken up by cells through both endocytosis and direct transmembrane pathways and delivers porphyrin into the cells. The supramolecular complexation in cells was directly detected by FRET between porphyrin and BODIPY.
