Electrochemical difunctionalization has been utilized in the synthesis of various drugs and natural products. In this review, electrochemical difunctionalization of alkenes and alkynes has been summarized which includes the use of homogeneous catalysts and redox mediators to explain the four categories of difunctionalization including 1,2-homo/hetero difunctionalization, difunctionalization involving rearrangements or distal migrations, and cyclization/dehydrogenative annulation type of reactions.
