Compared with traditional two-dimensional (2D) materials, 2D MOFs are favored by numerous researchers because of their unique structures. This review provides a relatively comprehensive summary for the design & synthesis and applications of 2D MOFs over the past few years. It mainly focuses on their potential application in catalysis, supercapacitor, gas adsorption/separation and sensors. Furthermore, the opportunities and challenges have been discussed to supply a promising prospect to this field.
