The cellular prion protein (PrP^C) is a membrane-bound, multifunctional protein mainly expressed in neuronal tissues. Recent studies indicate that the native trafficking of PrP^C can be misused to internalize misfolded amyloid beta and α-synuclein (aSyn) oligomers.
