In this minireview, the general thermodynamics for the formation of intermetallics have been discussed, followed by the introduction of two main approaches for the synthesis of intermetallics and the corresponding techniques. Then, the application of intermetallics in electrocatalysis has been illustrated case by case. Finally, perspectives on the development of intermetallics and the related catalysis have been proposed.
