Abstract

A study is performed of the local crystal and amorphous structure of Ti50Ni25Cu25 alloy after extreme impacts (megaplastic deformation in a Bridgman chamber and quenching from the liquid state at a rate of 106 K/s). The evolution of the atomic structure in the crystalline state of the alloy during megaplastic deformation on a sample’s surface (EELFS spectroscopy) is compared to the one in the sample’s bulk (EXAFS spectroscopy). There is gradual amorphization of the atomic structure in the bulk of the material. This also occurs in near-surface domains, but to a lesser extent.
