Abstract
New phenolate and azide bridged tetranuclear zinc(II) complex [Zn4Br2L2(μ1,1-N3)2] (1) and new mononuclear copper(II) complex [CuL] (2), where L is the dianionic form of N,N′-bis(5-methylsalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine (H2L), are synthesized and characterized. The complexes are characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectra, molar conductivity, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis indicates that the Zn atoms in complex 1 are in tetrahedral and square pyramidal coordinations, and the Cu atom in complex 2 is in a tetrahedral distorted square planar coordination. In the crystal structures of the complexes, molecules are stacked through π⋯π interactions. The complexes are assayed for antibacterial activities against three gram-positive bacterial strains (E. cloacae, E. cloacae, and St. faecalis) and three gram-negative bacterial strains (St. faecalis, P. aeruginosa, and E. cloacae) by the MTT method.
