Abstract

In this work, we report the preparation of a seven-coordinate Mn(II) complex derived from a pentadentate ligand and characterised by FTIR, mass spectra, and elemental analysis. The solid state structure of the complex is investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of the complex is solved in monoclinic unit cell and P21/c space group. Single crystal X-ray crystallographic data reveal that the complex crystallises as [Mn(L)(H2O)Cl]Cl(H2O). In the structure of the complex, each Mn(II) ion is seven-coordinated by five donor atoms from the ligand (N3O2 type), a chloride ion, and a water molecule. The ligand donor atoms form a pentagonal plane and two donors (chloride and a water molecule) are located at the axial positions resulting in the pentagonal bipyramidal geometry. The structure of the complex is stabilized by hydrogen bond contacts. The UV-Vis absorption and emission properties of the complex are also investigated in solution.
