Green synthesis of zinc ferrite

Abstract

Zinc ferrite (ZF) was obtained by a green synthesis using the Ginkgo Biloba extract as reductant and fuel. ZF was characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, and IR-spectroscopy. The XRD analysis indicates that single spinel structure is formed. The crystallite size of ZF is calculated by Scherer formula and Williamson-Hall method. SEM showed agglomerated morphology of ZF particles. Adsorption measurements were carried out using model solutions of Congo red dye with different concentrations. Adsorption process is described by Langmuir and Freundlich models. It was shown that Langmuir model fitted well the adsorption isotherm. This indicates the homogeneous distribution of surface active centers.
