Abstract

In the column below, the author discusses the process of developing a COVID-19 pandemic protocol in a regional academic library setting. This study examines the year-long process of creating a flexible learning environment that could meet the needs of the students, while operating under the constraints of a COVID-19 practice. The author presents data and commentary about modifications to resources and services and how library leadership had to make immediate changes to their workflows and community offerings. Multiple factors were used during the planning processes to assess proper approaches at each stage of the pandemic period. Several focus areas examined in the during and post COVID-19 stages include: re-allocation of space use in the library and use of student workers, the development of online bibliographic instruction sessions and tutorial, online information literacy training and assessment, and post-pandemic adaptations. Immediate and long-term considerations for library leaders and library staff as a result of changing practices and environments is included.
