New double layered Co(II)–organic framework for sensing of dichloromethane and Fe3+ ions

A new luminescent Co(II)–organic framework, [Co(L)(1,4-NDC)]n (1) (L = 1,3-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)propane, 1,4-H2NDC = 1,4-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid), was solvothermally synthesized. 1 shows a binodal 3,4-connected layer with the 3,4L27 topological network. Moreover, 1 possesses high thermal stability and can be used as a sensor for selective and sensitive detection of dichloromethane (DCM) and Fe3+ ions via luminescence enhancement mode (turn-on) and luminescence quenching effect (turn-off), separately. 1 represents a rare probe for sensing DCM and Fe3+ ions based on metal–organic frameworks.
