Selection of New Type Radial Steel Gate and Analysis of Static and Dynamic Characteristics

Radial gate, mainly composed of gate leaf, arm and hinge, is a widely used gate types in hydraulic structures. This study proposed an improved model structure of radial gate, On the basis of the traditional radial gate, a pressure rod is added to connect the support arm and the bifurcation point of the lower flange of the longitudinal beam. The improved model structure of radial gate is designed, simulated and analyzed by using the general finite element software ANSYS. The results illustrate that the stress value and displacement value of each component of radial rigid gate with compression bar arrangement are greatly reduced compared with traditional gate, among which the arm stress reduction and the longitudinal radial displacement reduction are up to 28.14%, and 27.35%, respectively. In addition, the overall ultimate bearing capacity increased by 26.80% with only a few increase of steel consumption; When the gate is closed without water, the natural frequency and amplitude response frequency of the improved gate are higher than that of the traditional gate, furthermore the response amplitude of each key node is reduced. Hence, this new design provides a high potential for the overall stability and the anti-vibration performance of traditional radial gate.
