S-Denitrosylase-Like Activity of Cyclic Diselenides Conjugated with Xaa-His Dipeptide: Role of Proline Spacer as a Key Activity Booster

1,2-Diselenan-4-amine conjugated with Pro-His dipeptide, a novel S-denitrosylase mimic, effectively promoted the cysteinyl S-denitrosylation and prevented protein misfolding caused by the S-nitrosylation. Structural analyses of the compound suggested that the diselenol form, which is produced as a key reactive species during the catalytic reaction, is thermodynamically stabilized by forming a γ-turn, dramatically enhancing the catalytic activity.
