Abstract

We showed earlier that, when aggregating network traffic measurements, starting from a certain aggregation window, a stable distribution is formed, which is approximated with a high accuracy by a lognormal law. Despite the fact that, in general, the results of network traffic measurements agree with this law, in the region of the small values of traffic intensity and transmission rate of network packets, there is a noticeable discrepancy between this law and the measurements. In this study, we discuss the problem of a peak arising in the low-intensity region during the aggregation of network traffic measurements. Taking into account the location of the peak in question, we called it the “zero channel” (ZC)
