Mothproofing Protection of Wool Fabric Against A. verbasci Using Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Rosmarinus officinalis, and Pinus brutia Extracts Through Pentagonal Design

Biodegradable materials of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Rosmarinus officinalis, and Pinus brutia were applied in this research to protect wool fabrics against Anthrenus verbasci. To do so, alcoholic extraction of the aforementioned compounds was first carried out and then, preventive protection and optimization of wool fabric mothproofing property, using pentagonal design and response surface method, was conducted; up to now, such a process was not reported and presented. Vicinity time and concentrations of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Rosmarinus officinalis, and Pinus brutia extracts were considered as independent variables, and efficiency of mothproofing property through wool destruction amounts was assumed as the dependent variable. Quadratic statistical models and optimized conditions of wool protection against A. verbasci were obtained and meticulously examined. The results revealed that alcoholic extraction is an efficient method to extract the effective materials of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Rosmarinus officinalis, and Pinus brutia, which are environmentally-friendly compounds, and that Eucalyptus camaldulensis is an excellent protection against A. verbasci, more so than the other compounds utilized in this research.
