Management of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) involves weighing the morbidity and mortality of a patient's lifetime risk of hemorrhage against that of an intervention, ie, surgery, endovascular embolization, radiosurgery, or some combination thereof. Numerous studies have attempted to delineate lesion-related and patient-related risk features associated with hemorrhage. No 2 AVMs are alike, although consensus terminology for the description of features has been described in an effort to guide overall nomenclature and understanding.1
