Coordinate transformation of screw rotor profile in different cross sections

This paper presents a method of transformation of the screw vacuum pump rotor (SVPR) profile in different sections. Corresponding formulas and transformation steps are given in detail. Based on a rotor of certain profile and geometric parameters, the transformation calculation is carried out as an example between the transverse and longitudinal sections. A real rotor of the same profile and geometric parameters is fabricated and measured. The result proves the suggested transformation method works. The method provides a theoretical support to get coordinates of rotor profile in certain section quickly, and brings convenience for the rotor machining. Furthermore, it can also provide a potential new design method of the rotor with good machinability.
