ABSTRACT
This article explores the experimentalism and utopianism of Australian lesbian feminist culture during the 1970s and 1980s. I draw upon a selection of oral histories with lesbian activists to provide a more in-depth account of lesbian feminism’s expansive trajectory in Australia during this period. As I show, Australian lesbian feminists imagined and enacted radical change through their kinship and chosen-family networks, their self-sufficient remote communities, and through the autonomous spaces they established to work and create alongside each other. In doing this, they endeavoured to live in a variety of ways that, they hoped, would transform themselves and broader society.
