Application values of two Co(II) coordination polymers on bacterial acute sinusitis by reducing the Streptococcus pneumoniae viability

Abstract

In the present study, via using a mixed ligand synthesis approach, two new Co(II) coordination polymers (CPs) with the chemical compositions of [Co(μ2-Hcpoia)(phen)(H2O)]n (1, phen = phenanthroline), and [Co2(μ2-Hcpoia)2(μ2–4,4′-bpy)(H2O)2]n·2nH2O (2, 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been successfully prepared via reaction of Co(NO3)2·6H2O with an asymmetric semirigid tricarboxylate ligand 4-(4-carboxyphenoxy)isophthalic acid (H3cpoia) in the presence of different N-donor co-ligands. Furthermore, the treatment activity of compounds 1 and 2 against bacterial acute sinusitis was evaluated and the related mechanism was explored at the same time. First of all, the inhibitory activity of compounds 1 and 2 on the Streptococcus pneumoniae survival rate was determined with Colony-Forming Units (CFU) assay. In addition to this, the content of inflammatory cytokines released into the nasal mucus was measured with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) after compounds exposure.
