Synthesis, structures and anti-diabetes activity of cobalt(II) coordination compounds

Abstract

In this study, two new Co(II)-containing coordination polymers (CPs) with the chemical compositions of [Co(Hcpboda)(2,2-bipy)(H2O)]n (1, 2,2-bipy = 2,2-bipyridine) and {[Co3(cpboda)2(phen)2(H2O)2]·2DMF·3H2O}n (2, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized by reaction of Co(NO3)2·6H2O with the 3,3′-((5-carboxy-1,3-phenylene)bis(oxy))dibenzoic acid (H3cpboda) in the presence of different N-donor co-ligands. The structural analysis results show that complex 1 features a zero-dimensional binuclear structure which was further extended into a 1 D chain via the H-bond interactions, while complex 2 shows a two-dimensional layered network based on the linear trinuclear [Co31,1-OH2)21,3-COO)6] subunits. The blood glucose meter was used to measure the blood sugar level in the Type II diabetes animal model after indicated compound treatment. Additionally, the real time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was conducted and the activation levels of SAMD signaling pathway in the liver cells was measured. Above all, compound 1 was much more excellent than compound 2 on Type II diabetes treatment.
