Study of Capacitor Parameters on the Optimal Trigger Position of Multipole Field Reconnection Electromagnetic Launcher

Multipole field reconnection electromagnetic launcher (MFREL) is an electromagnetic launcher (EML) with excellent performance, which has good application prospects in both military and civil fields. The selection of the appropriate trigger position can launch the projectile with higher speed and efficiency. The influence of capacitance parameters on the optimal starting position is studied in this article. The launch model and relevant theories are first introduced, followed by a series of simulations to investigate the performance of the model. The results indicate that the optimal trigger position is inversely proportional to the capacitance and voltage, but, because the change of capacitance value affects the discharge time constant of the current curve, the influence of capacitance value on the optimal trigger position is greater than that of voltage. The simulation results provide a reference for the selection of the best trigger position for reconnection electromagnetic launcher (REML) under different capacitance parameters.
