The Negative Effect of Some Factors on Potato Yield in Mountain Areas and Ways to Prevent Them

Abstract

Potato growing is one of the strategic sectors of the country, providing the basis for food security of the state. Degeneration of potatoes leads to a decrease in the yield of potato bush, the loss of high-quality varieties of potato, to a shortage of foodstuffs, which is unacceptable from the point of view of food security since potato is the second bread among food products. The causes of potato degeneration under the influence of certain abiotic factors is considered in the article. The studies were carried out in the Ganja-Gazakh zone of Azerbaijan during 2016–2019, stationary sites were selected, plant material was sown at different periods depending on the altitude from sea level (500, 700, 900 and 1400 m), for this purpose were used local sorts Amiri-600-I and Amiri-600-II. The development of plants and pests has been studied depending on height. It was determined that the reason potato degeneration is the vegetative propagation of one variety for four or more years under the same environmental conditions. To eliminate potato degeneration, it is necessary to conduct a summer planting of potatoes and change seed material every 3–4 yr. The significance of the article lies in the practical application of the results of the study to increase the potato yield, using the results of the research, it is possible to achieve sustainable development of potato growing in the country.
