Au/Cu nanoparticles with different compositions and solid-solution type structures are obtained by chemical reduction in ionic liquids and supported on carbon. Annealing led to nanoparticles of the ordered intermetallic L10 AuCu phase. The effect of Cu addition and intermetallic structure on the catalytic performance is evaluated in the of the biomass-derived platform molecule, 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural, to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid.
