Measurement of the Ag400 hydrogen adsorption rate in the process of pressure swing adsorption

As a new type of inexpensive getter, Ag400 molecular sieve has broad application prospects. The hydrogen adsorption rate of the Ag400 sample has been measured by the constant volume method in the process of pressure swing. The volumes of the apparatus chambers and the orifice conductance under different inlet pressures were calibrated, and the apparatus performance was tested. To ensure high accuracy, some experimental tricks including the loading of the getter and the condensing of the water vapor were implemented. The results showed that the initial adsorption rate of Ag400 is 3.26 × 10−6 m3 s−1 g−1 when the sorbed gas pressure is 0.086 Pa, which is 1/13 of the rate of PdO under the corresponding pressure. The results also showed that both the sorbed gas quantity and the sorbed gas pressure have a nonlinear effect on the adsorption rate of the getter, and 0.2 Pa is a critical point to estimate the Ag400 performance in limiting operational regimes. Subsequently, a surface plot of the adsorption rate was drawn by fitting, and its possible application was introduced. The test data was provided as supplementary material, and its measurement uncertainty and cumulative error were less than 2% and 5%, respectively.
