Layered double hydroxide as multifunctional materials for environmental remediation: from chemical pollutants to microorganisms

The most trending multifunctional layered double hydroxides (LDHs), are powder materials with layered structure accompanied by anion exchangeability, high chemical stability, and facile composition tenability that allows to fabricate environmentally friendly and biocompatible materials. This review manuscript demonstrates various synthetic strategies for LDHs followed by application in water purification and antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial activity of LDHs based nanomaterials is one of the most emergent applications demonstrated with bacteria, fungi and virus. Lastly, we finally support that LDH nanomaterials can contribute to developing multifunctional nanomaterials for various applications in single material.
