Anti-corrosion coatings with active and passive protective performances based on v-COF/GO nanocontainers

In the present work, a novel covalent organic framework/graphene oxide nanocontainer (v-COF/GO) was synthesized via a two-step solvothermal reaction. v-COF/GO displayed a high loading capacity of benzotriazole (BTA, 17.8 wt%). The UV–Vis spectroscopy results prove that the release amount of BTA molecules can reach 90% under alkaline conditions in 15 h, which provide an effective protection for carbon steel. Electrochemical measurement results show that the impedance modulus at low frequency of v-COF/GO@BTA/epoxy coatings was 1.3 orders of magnitude higher than that of the pure epoxy coatings even after 28 days of immersion. Moreover, the novel v-COF/GO based nanocontainer endowed the epoxy coating with efficient self-healing functionality. v-COF/GO@BTA had high impermeable properties as an epoxy filler and endowed the epoxy coating with exceptional passive and active anticorrosion properties. Thus, the service life of the coating was effectively enhanced under severe conditions.
