Design, Synthesis and anticancer evaluation of 2-(5-(Benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-5-aryl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivatives

A library of 2-(5-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-5-aryl-1H-benzo[d] imidazole derivatives (7a–j) were designed, synthesized and tested for their anticancer activity towards four human cancer cell lines namely MCF-7 (breast), A549 (lung), Colo-205 (colon) and A2780 (ovarian). Among them, compounds 7b, 7c, 7g and 7i have shown more promising activity compared to the positive control - Etoposide. Of these, compound 7b displayed highest anticancer activity against breast and lung cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and A549) with IC50 values of 0.018 ± 0.0039 µM and 0.011 ± 0.0019 µM.
