Endophytic Bacteria Isolated from Ageratum conyzoides L. and Mikania micrantha Kunth of Mizoram, Northeast India

The objective of the present study was (1) to isolate endophytic bacteria from Ageratum conyzoides L. and Mikania micrantha Kunth of shifting cultivation in Mizoram, (2) screen in vitro their potential for plant growth-promoting (PGPR) activities and (3) to identify endophytic bacteria positive for PGPR. A total of 9 endophytic bacteria showed positive for PGPR properties. Potential PGPR endophytic bacteria were selected for further characterization of their genotype 16S rRNA sequencing. 16S rRNA sequencing revealed that isolated bacteria belong to six different genus and five families. This study helps us to understand the diversity of the endophytic bacteria from the selected plants of shifting cultivation and strengthen our research on endophytes of their potential for PGPR activities. Survival of endophytic bacteria under unfavourable conditions is an indicative of their resistance for biotic and abiotic stresses.
