ABSTRACT

In the current scenario, biocompatible or biomedical materials are rising in demand for specific application requirements and its machining is one of the fundamental challenges. Many researchers focused on and solved these issues related to the application of machined biomedical devices. But still, there is a need to focus on different factors of the machining process for enhancement of properties and biocompatibility of machined materials such as surface roughness, for the promotion of osseointegration. In this paper EDM process on biomedical materials is discussed. Firstly, this paper reviews the EDM process and biomedical materials with their properties that are needed for their biocompatibility. These parameters decide the proper machining process. Further in this article impact of EDM processes on biomedical materials is discussed with their properties and factors that improve their compatibility with nearby tissues. Finally, the article reviews the optimization process on machining parameters that are employed for different biomedical applications. This review explores the future research areas and scopes for the EDM process to fulfill the high standard necessities for biomedical materials and their applications in bioimplant manufacturing.
