ABSTRACT Overexcitability (OE) is a key concept introduced in the literature by Kazimierz Dąbrowski who distinguished 5 forms of OE (psychomotor, sensual, imaginational, intellectual, and emotional) and showed that they are correlated with outstanding talents and creativity. In this study a group of musically talented individuals (n = 106) was compared with a control group (n = 106). OEQ-II was used to measure OE. Female musicians scored significantly higher in sensual, imaginational, and intellectual OEs compared to the women from the control group, while male musicians scored significantly higher in sensual and emotional OEs and lower in psychomotor OE compared to the men from the control group. In addition, the musicians and non-musicians were compared with the sten norms for OEQ-II. It was found that the number of individuals showing high emotional and high sensual OEs was more than twice as high in the group of musicians than in the control group.
