Gyrator-C-Based CMOS Active Inductors: Analysis of Performance Optimization Techniques

Inductors are critical components in RF applications, such as filters, oscillators, and amplifiers. However, integrated spiral inductors on silicon (Si) have shown performance limitations. They do not meet the challenges of current trends toward miniaturized, low-cost, and on-chip multistandard communication systems [1]. While they have good performance in terms of noise, linearity, and power consumption, as they do not need a dc bias to work, electromagnetic interference with neighboring circuitry is a major problem associated with the layout of spiral inductors.
