Abstract

The development of research on the molecular and supramolecular structure of coal vitrinites at AO VUKhIN between 1975 and 2020 is described. This research has relied on quantitative methods and the extraction of information from instrument readings. A hypothesis regarding the origin of coal, oil, and gas is outlined. The applicability of the cis–trans-polyene model to the structure of hydrocarbon materials is shown.
