Role of electrolyte-drug interactions in solution behavior of antibiotic drug streptomycin sulphate: Density, speed of sound and viscosity studies

The density, speed of sound, and viscosity values have been measured for mixtures of aqueous streptomycin sulphate with six different electrolytes (NaCl, KCl, RbCl, MgCl2, CaCl2 and SrCl2) under atmospheric pressure at various concentrations and temperatures (298.15 to 313.15 K). The experimental density (ρ) and speed of sound (u) data have been used to calculate various derived volumetric and compressibility parameters such as apparent molar volume (φv), isentropic compressibility (κ), and apparent molar adiabatic compression(φκ). Viscosity (η) values are used to calculate relative viscosity (ηr) and viscous relaxation time (τ). The above mentioned parameters have been further utilized to develop an insight into the various interactions like hydrophobic-hydrophobic, hydrophobic-hydrophilic, and hydrophilic-hydrophilic interactions happening in electrolyte-drug-water ternary system. Moreover, the viscosity data have been used to investigating the effect of electrolytes in terms of structure making and breaking properties.
