Stability of electron-hole liquid in quantum wires

The energy and equilibrium density of electron-hole liquid in quantum wires is calculated using density functional theory. Nonlinear Schrödinger equations for electrons and holes are solved numerically. It is shown that electron-hole liquid in a quantum wire with a radius of a few exciton radii is stable in semiconductors with single-valley spectrum and isotropic masses of electrons and holes.
