This article presents some reflections on the author’s experience of editing the manuscript of Kitāb al-Jihād, by the Damascene religious scholar and preacher ʿAlī ibn Ṭāhir al-Sulamī (d. 500/1106). This includes consideration of the history of the manuscript, the challenges that it presented to the editor, features of the manuscript, and some resources that proved to be helpful for the author’s work with it. It is the hope of the author that these reflections will be helpful to others who may be embarking on similar projects.
