Modern Aspects of the Tectonic Structure of the South Verkhoyansk Synclinorium

Abstract

Problems of the origin and tectonic structure of the South Verkhoyansk synclinorium are discussed. It is suggested that in the Late Paleozoic the South Verkhoyansk basin inherited the structure of the Sette-Daban rift graben arranged as a submarine valley across the Verkhoyansk passive margin. Lateral movements of the Okhotsk indenter during the Late Mesozoic orogenic events led to transformation of the South Verkhoyansk basin into the two-staged synclinorium of the same name, whose lower cleavage stage is an ore-bearing metamorphic layer.
