The major trends in the development of grease products are described in an analysis of the relevant research and patent literature, including research on superalkaline calcium greases for heavilyloaded friction units and possible applications of nanoparticle additives to multifunctional greases. Developments in lowtemperature greases derived from biodegradable polyester bases and lubricants for electric car friction units are also examined.
