Shaking the Empire, Shaking the Patriarchy is an ambitious and useful project that will serve in a variety of classroom and research sett ings. Simply collecting and translating relevant documents from a dozen languages is an achievement, and the authors make a good case for the place of AustroHungarian feminism within the broader movement. Schwartz and Th orson’s work will be extremely useful as a source for upperlevel classes on European Feminism, East Central Europe, the Habsburg Empire, and European culture in general. John E.
