Abstract

An efficient multispectral image codec is proposed for high-fidelity color and spectrum reproduction with low storage. A nonlinear spectral model is first established to guide coding, spectral decomposition and representation. Then, the uniform color space values of the spectra are extracted; visual-curve-like trigonometric bases are adopted to obtain the other two coding values. Finally, combined with an error compensation mechanism and a novel predictor, the last vector is obtained from the predicted difference spectra. Decoding is the inverse of coding. The experimental results indicate that our codec achieves superior performance on color reproduction, spectral reconstruction, robustness and object color estimation.
