Potash (2018) argues for relational social justice ethics to create a “middle” between opposing viewpoints on contemporary social justice issues in art therapy, claiming that activists can “reduce all possible combinations of factors, choices, and emotions into diametric opposites” (p. 203). He refers to celebrated, albeit historically controversial, male leaders – Carl Jung, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X – in an article about the circumstances surrounding the American Art Therapy Association and Karen Pence’s Art Therapy: Healing with the HeART Initiative.
