Gaṅgā Devī, the goddess and personification of the Ganges river, travels every spring from her winter home in Mukhba to her summer home in Gangotri, then back to Mukhba in the fall. This journey or pilgrimage is described, analyzed, and interpreted. Intimately connected to the journey and the cultural contexts is the visual spectacle, the imagery typically Himalayan, consisting of deities on the move, scenes of possession and divination, picturesque scenery, unique musicians, and more.
