A 3D tubular structure with droplet generation and temperature control for DNA amplification

This study provides an innovative design to generate droplets in a single tube. This creative design utilizes a single tube to generate droplets for the emulsion Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The multi-layered built-in microchannel structures were constructed in the disposable tube for minimum material used during the droplet PCR process. The PCR experiments show that the 3D tube provided a greater heating and cooling rate than the commercial PCR tube with the same system. In this research, droplets generation and PCR reaction results demonstrate the potentiality of digital PCR that can be executed in a single tubular structure.
