Lighting Research & Technology depends on its reviewers to maintain the high standard of the journal. More generally, much of the authority that the scientific method rightly commands rests on the principle of peer review. Whilst reproducibility of results is generally accepted as a necessary feature of the scientific method, it is evidently the case that the findings from a great many published studies are not tested on this basis. Accordingly, with scientific publishing there is an element of trust involved: the readers of a science/technology journal trust that the reviewers (together with the editorial team) will only approve for publication original research that has a solid methodological basis. Additionally, the submitted draft must demonstrate sufficient originality and rigour to be of interest to the readers of, in our case, LR&T.
