Ion Fountain Mode for Plane Diodes with a Non-Zero Field in the Ion Reflection Plane

The effect of electron current amplification in planar unipolar and bipolar diodes during ion injection from the side of a permeable and heated cathode (“ion fountain” mode) in the general case of a nonzero electric field in the plane of ion reflection and at the anode is investigated. For electrons emitted by the cathode, the entire range of possible situations is considered, ranging from nonrelativistic energies to the ultrarelativistic limit. The effect of injected ions on the field distribution in a unipolar diode in the case of electron emission limited by temperature is studied.
