The American Society of Mammalogists (ASM) has operated under carefully conceived and clearly written Bylaws and Rules since its founding in 1919. The Bylaws and Rules have been amended 21 times over the decades since. When an update or revision to the Bylaws is needed so that the ASM remains a relevant, democratic, and vibrant organization, proposed amendments are to be presented to the entire membership “2 months” prior to a Members’ Meeting. Following approval and recommendation by the Board at their meeting, proposed amendments then require two-thirds approval by Members attending an Annual Meeting.
