Form Change and Cracking of RBMK-1000 Graphite Stack Blocks Under Restrained Deformation

The results of modeling the form change and cracking of graphite blocks under exposure to heat and radiation at the stage of their secondary swelling within the scope of scientific and technical support for the restoration of the lifespan characteristics of the graphite stack of power units with RBMK-1000 in order to predict the deformed state of graphite at the final stages of operation of channel reactors are reported. To improve the convergence of the calculated and actual formation and development of cracks, an algorithm based on an analysis of the results of in-reactor control was developed. The algorithm contains information about crack growth over different control periods, taking into account the correction for crack opening from the force action of graphite columns one on top of the other due to restrained deformation. The developed approaches have been successfully tested on the example of the graphite stacks of the No. 1 unit of the Leningrad NPP and the No. 2 unit of the Kursk NPP.
