More than 90% of patients with penicillin allergy recorded are found not to be allergic after formal allergy testing, and can safely tolerate penicillin.1 Patients with penicillin allergy recorded are often prescribed second-line antibiotics which are more costly,2 can be less effective, and associated with a greater risk of adverse reactions.3
