While house dust mite (HDM) sensitisation is strongly associated with asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis (AD), it is less commonly associated with food allergy. As infants with moderate to severe AD are high risk for the development of food allergy, we hypothesised that HDM sensitisation, through its documented effects on barrier dysfunction might further promote the development of food allergy in this cohort.
